October 2, 1921 – January 14, 2017

Louise Elizabeth Manns, 95, of Excelsior Springs, passed away Saturday evening, January 14, 2017 at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Louise was born on October 2, 1921 in Sedalia, Mo., to David Linwood Wilson and Delberta Frances (Wheeler) Wilson. She had lived in the Excelsior Springs area for several years. She was a homemaker, wife, and grandmother.

She had been a member of the Rose of Sharon Penecostal Church for a number of years and most recently was a member of the Souls Harbor Assembly of God Church in Independence, Mo. Louise loved her dogs, playing cards and Bingo. She especially loved her grandchildren and getting together with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Roscoe Manns, who died in 1986; two sons, Jimmy Lee Manns and Bobby Dean Manns; brothers, David Henry Wilson, Paul Linwood Wilson, and Forrest Gayle Wilson.

Survivors include one son, Earl William “Bill” Manns (Jeanne) of Gravois Mills, Mo., and two daughters, Earlene Frances Hoskins (Ronald) of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Joyce Ann Corliss of Lawson, Mo. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 87 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at the Souls Harbor Assembly of God Church, 17138 East 39th Street South, Independence, MO 64055, with Rev. Darrel Burch and Rev. Larry Hoskins officiating. Burial will follow in Siegel Cemetery south of Excelsior Springs, Mo.

February 19, 1956  – January 14, 2017

Shirley Louise Rogers, of Camden, Mo., passed away on January 14, 2017 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born on February 19, 1956 in Lexington, Mo., to Roy Junior “Pete” Merriman and Marilyn Joy Branham Merriman.

She graduated from Orrick High School with the class of 1974. She retired from the medical offices of Dr.’s Hellman & Rosen after working there for many years. She was a member of the Fleming Baptist Church. Shirley volunteered at the Fleming food pantry during its operation. She served the food pantry with great dedication and passion and made many friends during the time she served. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was well known for her talent for cooking.

She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Gary Jo Rogers, of the home in Camden, Mo.; two sons, Kevin Les Rogers and Aaron Jo Rogers, both of Camden, Mo.; one daughter, Shannon Lynn Turner of Camden, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Hunter Riley, Amber Riley, and Dillion Rogers, all of Richmond, Mo., Nick Beck and Clayton Beck, both of Camden, Mo., Carlie Turner and Kyle Turner, both of Orrick, Mo.; sisters, Debra Joy Bishop of Kansas City, Mo., Linda Hufford of Oak Grove, Mo., and Christi Arbuckle of Moses Lake, Wash.; brothers, Scott Merriman and Jeff Merriman, both of Orrick, Mo., and Jim Merriman of Fort Scott, Kans.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Jr. “Pete” and Marilyn Joy Merriman; two brothers, Alan Eugene Merriman and Donald Roy Merriman; two nephews, Ryan Christopher Arbuckle and David Roy Merriman; and one great nephew, Erik Peery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, followed by memorial services at 2 p.m., also at the funeral home. Her grandson’s will serve as Honorary pallbearers, Hunter Riley, Dillion Rogers, Kyle Turner, Clayton Beck and Nick Beck.

December 4, 1928 – October 29, 2016

Velma Helen Stockton, 87 of Liberty, Mo., formerly of Orrick, Mo., died October 29, 2016 at the Vallely Manor Care Center in Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Velma was born on December 4, 1928 in Lawson, Mo., to Valentine and Helen (Hurst) Goodman. Velma was united in marriage to Robert Preston “Covey” Stockton of Orrick on February 22, 1968. Velma and Covey made their home in Orrick for a number of years before moving to Liberty.

Velma had worked for many years at Montgomery Ward in Kansas City as a drapery maker and retired in the mid 1980’s. She also had been a homemaker. She was a member of the Orrick Assembly of God Church. Velma also had been a girl scout leader and had her own brownie troup, which she enjoyed very much. Velma and Covey spent alot of time traveling and she so enjoyed the time spent traveling with Covey.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Preston “Covey” Stockton, Sr. on April 28, 2015, three sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James O’Dell (Linda), of Liberty, Mo., daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Pennington (Roger) of Excelsior Springs, Mo., step-son and wife, Robert P. Stockton, Jr. (Joyce) of Orrick, Mo., and Lloyd Andrew Stockton of Peoria, Ariz.; a brother, Charles Wayne Goodman of Grain Valley, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Goodman of Kansas City, Mo.; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family has suggested memorials in her memory be given to either the American Lung Association or the Alzheimers Association.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning, November 2, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the Orrick Assembly of God Church. Memorial services will follow at the church at 12 noon, with Rev. Alan Myers, officiating. Private inurnment will be in South Point Cemetery.

September 1, 1937 – October 8, 2016

Norberta Laura Thomason, 79 of rural Orrick, Mo., passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, Mo.

Norberta was born on September 1, 1937 in Boonville, Mo., to Norbert and Edna (Bushmeyer) Blank. She had lived in Boonville, Kansas City, Mo., Missouri City and Clay County, Mo., before moving to Orrick 35 years ago.

Norberta was united in marriage to James M. Thomason in June of 1967. She was a homemaker and also had worked at numerous places during her life, the longest was with Whitaker Cable Company in Excelsior Springs, Mo., where she worked for many years.

She was a member of the Richfield 500 Rebecca Lodge in Missouri City, Mo.

Norberta was preceded in death by her parents, two siblings,and two daughters, Christy Johnson and Cindy Thomason.

Norberta is survived by her husband of 49 years, James M. Thomason of the home in Orrick; two sons, Robert E. Thomason of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and, James E. Thomason of Orrick, Mo.; two brothers, Leon Blank of Missouri, and Nick Blank of Holt, Mo.; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and the family pet dog, Chico.

The family will greet friends Wednesday, October 12, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a memorial service and balloon release at 5:30 p.m. at the Missouri City Odd Fellows Lodge Hall. A dinner for those that desire to stay will be served following the service at the Lodge Hall.

1935 – 2016

Bobby G. Loyd, 80, of rural Orrick, Mo., died July 25, 2016 at the Liberty Hospital.

Born on August 31, 1935 in Orrick to Otis and Mildred (Good) Loyd, he lived most of his life in the Orrick area. Bobby was united in marriage in 1958 to Judith Ann Stekphens in a ceremony in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Bobby served his country in the United States Army from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1958. He had worked as a truck driver for many years for Guys Foods in Liberty, which later became known as Bordens Foods.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Mildred Loyd.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Ann Loyd, of the home; two daughters, Sharon McAdams (Charles) of Orrick, Mo., and Tammy O’Dell (Mark) of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; two sons, Bobby Loyd and David Loyd, both of Orrick, Mo.; a sister, Connie Rhodes of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

The family will greet friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Salem Christian Union Church, 15701 Salem Road, Excelsior Springs, MO. Memorial services will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with full military honors rendered by U.S. Army and Post # 236.

Julie Ann Mathews, 62 of Orrick, Mo., passed away Sunday morning at the home of her daughter in Kansas City, Mo.

She was born on September 27, 1953 in Gallatin, Mo., to Curtis Emmit Tucker and Joann (Vanderpool) Tucker. Julie had made her home in the Orrick area for over 32 years. She was the office manager for Missouri Rock Company, Inc., at their locations in Missouri City, Mo., and Orrick, Mo., for the past 37 years.

Julie was united in marriage to Doanld Mathews. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1984.

Julie was a kind and friendly person that made friends easily. She especially loved her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Sandra O’Dell and Michelle Priest of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Teresa Samaroo (Timothy) of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Jim Tucker (Florence) of Gallatin, Mo.; her nine grandchildren, Adam Dunwoodie, Alex Dunwoodie, Christopher Mathews, Anthony Hufford, Paige Dixon, Lauren Huggins, Colin Huggins, Taylor Samaroo and Bella Samaroo; seven great grandchildren; and her loving dog, Jo Jo.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald Mathews on May 13, 1984, and a great grandson, Tatum Spaulding in 2015.

Memorials are suggested to The Orrick Public Schools Athletic Department in her memory.

John Roy Kennedy, 78 of Richmond, Mo., passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at The Golden Living Nursing Home in Independence, Mo.

John was born on December 9, 1937 in Orrick, Mo., to Daisy Mae (Callaway) Kennedy and Bennie John Kennedy. He attended high school in Excelsior Springs, Mo. John had lived in Excelsior Springs and Orrick before moving to Camdenton, Mo. He returned to Richmond in 2014. John had worked for the Ford Motor Company in Claycomo for 32 years and retired from his duties there in the spring of 1992. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of ADA Lodge # 444 in Orrick and was a 32nd degree mason. He was also a member of the Aarat Shrine.

He was married first to Mary Sue Barger and later to Pearl Marie George of Iowa. Both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Daisy Kennedy, a brother, Donald Kennedy, and an infant brother who died shortly after birth.

John is survived by a daughter, Joni Gay Loxterman of Hamilton, Mo., a step daughter, Kim Edwards of Camdenton, Mo., sisters, Judith Kathleen Claire and Wanda Jean Roe both of Richmond, Mo., one granddaughter, one step grandson and four step great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Masonic services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July, 1, 2016 at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, followed by visitation at 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Gowing Chapel in Orrick with burial following in Richmond Memory Gardens in Richmond, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimers Association or to ADA Lodge #444 in Orrick.

Raymond E. Murray Sr. passed away on June 9, 2016 at Life Care Center of Brookfield, in Brookfield, Mo. He was born to Authur J. Murray and Dolores Murray on July 19, 1944.

He is survived by Raymond E. Murray Jr.., Tamara Dawn Proffitt, Candy Dee Murray, and A.J. Murray; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Gearhart and Donna Podgornik; and one brother, Robert J. Murray.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Arthur and Dolores Murray; one sister, Lorraine Murray; and two granddaughters, Diana Marie Murray and April Marie VanGordon.

Patricia Marie Jackson, 49, passed away May 26, 2016 in Kansas City, Mo. She was born June 7, 1966. She is the daughter of Fred E. Jackson and Donna E. Cook Jackson-Harris.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Jackson, and brother, Jerry Jackson.

She is survived by a young son, Nathan Kerr, and husband, Kenneth Kerr, both of the home; mother, Donna Jackson-Harris of Osceola, Mo.; two sisters, Terri Kramer of Bethany, Mo., and Kathy Carter of Kansas City, Mo.; and a brother, Jeff Jackson of Eagleville, Mo. Patti also had many nieces and nephews, along with many other family members.

Patti loved life and was a dedicated and wonderful mom to her son Nathan. He was the light of her life. She worked at Wal-Mart for the past 11 years and loved every minute of it! She enjoyed spending time with her son, and family time was very important to her. She was a friend to so many and she will be missed by all.

Mae Dean Creason, 93, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., formerly of Orrick, Mo., went to her heavenly home in Jesus on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center.

Mae was born in Orrick, Mo., to Joseph Harrison Richardson and Mary Caroline (Hufford) Richardson. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Creason, and he passed away in 2002. Mae had lived 80 years in Orrick before she moved to Excelsior Spring 13 years ago. Mae had worked as a bullet inspector for the Lake City Ammunition plant in the 50’s. She also had worked at the Excelsior Springs Laundry Mat for several years. She also sold Avon products for many years around Orrick. Mae was a member of the Orrick Assembly of God Church for many years. Recently, she has attended the Northland Abundant Life Worship Center in Kansas City, Mo.

Mae loved Gospel Music and she loved to cook. She especially love to bake a variety of pies. Getting together with her family was her favorite thing to do, especially gathering with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Creason in 2002, all her siblings, and two grandchildren, Jamie Creason in 1990 and Caleb Creason in 2009.

Survivors include two sons, Duke Creason and Joseph Creason (Jenni), all of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; three daughters, Sharon Curtis of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Sandy Martin (Storm) of Kingsville, Mo., and Robin McDonald (Lonnie) of Grandview, Mo.; eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Visitation for Mae will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Tony Ceballos officiating. Burial will follow in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.
