Velma Helen Stockton, 87 of Liberty, Mo., formerly of Orrick, Mo., died October 29, 2016 at the Vallely Manor Care Center in Excelsior Springs, Mo.
Velma was born on December 4, 1928 in Lawson, Mo., to Valentine and Helen (Hurst) Goodman. Velma was united in marriage to Robert Preston “Covey” Stockton of Orrick on February 22, 1968. Velma and Covey made their home in Orrick for a number of years before moving to Liberty.
Velma had worked for many years at Montgomery Ward in Kansas City as a drapery maker and retired in the mid 1980’s. She also had been a homemaker. She was a member of the Orrick Assembly of God Church. Velma also had been a girl scout leader and had her own brownie troup, which she enjoyed very much. Velma and Covey spent alot of time traveling and she so enjoyed the time spent traveling with Covey.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Preston “Covey” Stockton, Sr. on April 28, 2015, three sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James O’Dell (Linda), of Liberty, Mo., daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Pennington (Roger) of Excelsior Springs, Mo., step-son and wife, Robert P. Stockton, Jr. (Joyce) of Orrick, Mo., and Lloyd Andrew Stockton of Peoria, Ariz.; a brother, Charles Wayne Goodman of Grain Valley, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Goodman of Kansas City, Mo.; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family has suggested memorials in her memory be given to either the American Lung Association or the Alzheimers Association.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning, November 2, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the Orrick Assembly of God Church. Memorial services will follow at the church at 12 noon, with Rev. Alan Myers, officiating. Private inurnment will be in South Point Cemetery.
