Leo Jackson “Jack” Ryan, 76 of Orrick, Mo., passed away on May 31, 2021 at his home with his loving family surrounding him.

Known as Jack by his family and friends, Jack was born on May 30, 1945 in Coffeeville, Kans., to Leo J. Ryan and JoAnn (Smoley) Ryan.  Jack moved to the Orrick area in 1963. He attended school at Orrick and graduated from Orrick High School with the class of 1965.  On August 26, 1966, Jack was united in marriage to Lana Lynn Greer in a ceremony at The Orrick Baptist Church. Following their marriage, Jack and Lana made their home in Orrick.

Jack worked as a maintenance engineer for Gilmour/Bosch Corp. in Excelsior Springs and retired from there in 2012 after 48 years of service.

Jack liked hunting, fishing, and camping, gardening, raising chickens and rabbits. He loved sports, and he liked being in the press box at all of Orrick High School’s home games helping to cheer on the Bearcats.  He especially loved the time spent with his family, especially the grandkids.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Melvin, Danny and Johnny; and a special Uncle and Aunt, Jay and Beverly Blair.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 55 years, Lana Ryan of the home; daughters, Raniesa Sherrill and husband, Paul of Orrick, and Shawn Wright and husband, Scott of Independence, Mo.; a sister, Lova Whorton and husband, Tommy of Orrick, Mo.; a halfsister, Jodi Bustos and husband, Billy of Albuquerque, N.M; grandchildren, Rachel Brown, Cerin Oliphant, Kasara Arnold, McKenna Wright, Kincayde and Keit Sherrill. Also surviving are 10 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, June 3, 2021 at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, Mo.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Orrick Baptist Church, with Mr. Michael Hartwick and Rev. Jacob Overstreet officiating. Burial will follow in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.

Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to Orrick Baptist Church in his memory.

Duncan Scott McGregor, Sr., 84, of Orrick, MO, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021 at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, MO, surrounded by his family

Duncan was born July 12, 1936 in Aurora, Illinois, to Harold and Virginia (Scott) McGregor. He was united in marriage to Peggy Sue Lana of Richmond, MO, on August 26, 1960. They had two children, Deborah Sue McGregor and Duncan Scott McGregor, Jr.

Duncan served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, and was a very proud veteran. After he was discharged, he worked for Allis Chalmers in Independence, MO, for 38 years before retiring in 1999. He then worked for Easley’s Auto Auction for many years after he retired. Back in the day, he served as the Municipal Judge in Orrick for several years as well. Duncan loved to stay busy. He loved to garden, spending many hours out there making his the biggest and best it could be.  He was very talented at wood working, making many items that we will always cherish from him. He also enjoyed painting, reading, watching old westerns, spending time with family and he especially enjoyed either a beer, or his nightly glass of E & J Brandy (or both).

Duncan was a member of the Orrick Christian Church.

Duncan was preceded in death by his father and mother; his sisters, Mary Ann Franklin and Normal Lou Piepergerdes; his brother, Harold David McGregor; a niece, Susan McGregor; and a very special aunt, Eva Riddell.

He leaves many loved ones behind. His wife, Peggy of the home; a son, Duncan Scott McGregor Jr. (Laura) of Orrick; daughter, Debbie McGregor of Orrick; five grandchildren, Duncan (Trey) Scott McGregor III (Liea) of Richmond, MO, Nathan (Sammie) McGregor of Orrick, Amanda McGregor of Orrick, Andrew Stockton of Independence, and Rainna Stockton of Orrick; one great granddaughter, Pauline Mae McGregor of Orrick; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte McGregor of Lee’s Summit. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life open house will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the Community Center in Orrick, MO, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., with a short service with full military honors being done across the street at the Veterans Memorial Flag at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions be sent to either the Community Center in Orrick, MO, or the American Cancer Society, in memory of Duncan McGregor, Sr.

Katie Anglene Shrout, 70, of rural Rayville, MO, passed away on Monday morning, May 17, 2021 at her home. Katie was born on November 27, 1950 in Kansas City, MO, to Eugene Chester Brown and Golda Mae (Green) Brown. On February 23, 1966, Katie was united in marriage to Bobby Shrout in a ceremony performed in Avondale, MO. Bob and Katie moved to the Rayville area in 1988, where they enjoyed their small acreage and country living.

Katie had many things she loved in life, her first and most important thing is that she loved the Lord and his creations. She loved the birds that visited her property and her flowers and flower beds that she created and attended to. She had a special fondness of the swimming pool and the memories of fun times with the family swimming and playing in it. She also loved to travel. Katie loved the fall of the year. She also loved family gatherings and spending time with her family.

Katie had worked at the Walmart Store in Excelsior Springs for many years before she retired.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dwight; and a sister, Julie; and an infant sibling.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Bob Shrout, of the home in Rayville, MO; four sons, Kalen Shrout and Doug Shrout, both of Rayville, MO, Scott Shrout of Gladstone, MO, and Brian Shrout of Eldorado Springs, MO; a daughter, Dana Thomas and husband, Jeremy of Wood Heights, MO. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home, with the Reverend Dana Taylor officiating. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery near Orrick, MO.

Susan Kay (Endsley) Jones, 70, of Liberty, MO, formerly of Orrick, MO, passed away Friday morning, May 7, 2021 at Liberty Hospital.

Susan was born on October 16, 1950 in Kansas City, MO, to Walter Thomas Endsley and Betty Ann (Fulte) Endsley.

Susan was raised in Orrick and attended and graduated from Orrick High School. Following high school, she attended Central Methodist University.  Susan was united in marriage to Thomas J. Jones, Jr. on September 29, 1979.  He preceded her in death in 2014.

Susan was best described as a fun loving person who was always up for any adventure.  Susan loved the outdoors and would jump at any opportunity to go hunting or fishing.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas James Jones, Jr.; her parents, Walter Thomas Endsley and Betty Ann (Fulte) Endsley; sister, Rose Ann (Endsley) Millsap;  brothers, Thomas Endsley and Michael Endsley; and an infant grandson, Dawson Thomas Jones.

She is survived by her daughters, Shannon Smith and husband, Rob of Auburn, GA, and Brandy McDermott and husband, Kevin of Ballwin, MO; three step sons, Dan Jones and wife, Kathy, and Kevin Jones and wife, Joely, both of Kansas City, MO, and Ned Jones of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Hannah, Jasmine, Logan, Anna, Ariel, Mackenzie, Danny, Camden, Avery, Caitlyn, Michael and Andrew;  and a brother, Terry Endsley and wife, Marjorie of Orrick, MO.

Susan requested to be cremated. The family has invited you to join them on Saturday, June 5, 2021 to celebrate the life of Susan Jones at The Corbin Mill, 131 S. Water Street, Liberty, MO from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.

Joy Lynn Sample, 63, of Grandview, Mo., passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Joy was born on March 3, 1958 in Kansas City, Mo., to James R. Ramey and Velma M. (Bradshaw) Ramey. Joy had lived her entire life in the Kansas City area.

She was united in marriage to David Sample on June 17, 1977. Joy enjoyed life and among her many interest she especially loved cooking, watching and rooting for the Chiefs, she also loved working at the Chiefs Stadium. Joy liked to Barbeque and was a member of The Kansas City Barbeque Society.  She also had a great passion for felines and had cats close by to enjoy and love.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Velma Ramey; her brother, Darrell Walker; and a sister, Patricia Cloud.

Joy is survived by her husband of 43 years, David Sample of the home; one son, Brandon Sample of Orrick, Mo.; and a sister, Mary Lou Terril of Shawnee, Kans.

The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, Mo.  Funeral services for Joy will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Mr. Bryan Thompson officiating. Joy will be cremated following the services.

Mask are required to be worn to attend the visitation and service.

James Dean Davis, 50, of Orrick, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at his home in Orrick.  James was born on September 8, 1970 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Randall J. Davis and JoEllen Davis. James moved with his family to Orrick in 1978 and attended school at Orrick.

He was currently employed in the produce department at Harp’s Grocery Store in Richmond, MO.

James was an excellent drummer and guitarist. He loved music and playing in local bands and had played in the band called Evolution, as well as some other bands. He enjoyed attending concerts, reading and watching TV.  James had a German shepherd and husky mixed dog named Bubba that he dearly loved. The two had a special bond and spent lots of enjoyable times together until Bubba died a couple years ago.

James was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James R. Davis and Joyce, and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Mickey Floerchinger and Bill and Shirley Ross. He was also preceded by an uncle, John Ross.

Survivors include his father, Randall J. Davis of Orrick, MO; his mother, JoEllen Davis of Excelsior Springs, MO; uncles, Mike Floerchinger and Rick Floerchinger, both of Cedar Rapids, IA;  aunts, Candace Allen (Chuck) of Mt. Vernon, IA, and Debra Evanoff of Iowa; cousins, Tracey Allen of Springville, IA, Travis Allen of Lisbon, IA, and Trenay Hart of Billings, MT. He is also survived by a special friend, Elizabeth Mellinger of Harrisonville, MO.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2021 at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Funeral services will immediately follow at 7:30 p.m., also at the funeral home. James will be cremated following services.

Billy Joe Hall, 91, of Orrick, Mo., passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021 at his home in Orrick.

Billy was born  on November 24, 1929 in Orrick, Mo., to Don Hall and Helen (McMullen) Hall. He lived all of his life in Orrick and attended schools in Orrick.  In 1951, he went into the Army Air Force and was there until late 1953, having spent one and a half years in Korea. In February 1955, he was united in marriage to Maria Garreffa of Mosby, Mo., and to this union was born one son, Paul Timothy Hall.

Billy was a member of the Orrick Baptist Church. His life was built around his church. He served as teacher for young boys and had served as Sunday School Superintendent and was an ordained deacon. He also had served as the church treasure for many years.

He had served the City of Orrick as the City Collector for 25 years. He worked most of his life in his family’s grocery store, Hall’s Grocery in Orrick, and retired from his duties there in 1993.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Donna Sue Stagner.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Maria Hall; his son, Paul Timothy Hall of Texas; a brother, John Hall (Karma) of Gravois Mills, Mo.; and a sister, Mary Lou Payne of Orrick, Mo.; grandchildren, Monica Hall of Kansas City, Mo., and Kendal Hall (Jacki) of Spokane, Wash;  four great grandchildren, Shadow, Aurora, Mercedez, and Bentlee. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

In lieu of floral arrangements, memorials are suggested to be given to the Orrick Baptist Church in his honor.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Orrick Baptist Church with Rev. Jacob Overstreet officiating. Billy will be laid to rest with his family in Riffe Cemetery northwest of Orrick with full military honors provided by U.S. Army and Ray County Veterans honors team.

Darrell Allen Lee, 68 of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away at his home February 5, 2021. Darrell was born on November 22, 1952 in Kansas City, Mo., to John Allen Lee and Mary Jo (Long) Lee. He was united in marriage to Cindy Renfrow on March 31, 1980.

Darrell was a 1970 graduate of Orrick High School. He was a member of the Heavy Construction Laborer’s Union #663, retiring from Musselman & Hall Contractors.  Darrell’s favorite past times were composing songs, playing the guitar, and singing with his dad.

He was preceded in death by his father and a nephew, John Allen Lee.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Cindy, of the home. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Jo Lee; one brother, David Joe (Sheila) Lee; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even three great-great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions to Darrell’s memory can be made to South Point Cemetery, 35054 Highway Z, Orrick, Missouri 64077.   Graveside services and inurnment will be held at a later date.

Edith Annabelle (Prudden) Stagner was born on June 21, 1923 in Kidder, Mo., to Stephen and Nancy Mae (White) Prudden. Edith was the oldest of seven children and was often their caretaker. The family moved many times between Kansas and Missouri in their youth. Her parents finally settled in Osborn, Mo.  Edith left home and moved to Kansas City to live with her aunt and that is when she met John Stagner.  They were married on March 11, 1944 and resided in Kansas City, Mo., later moving to Orrick, Mo., in 1955.  John and Edith had two children and raised John’s three children from a previous marriage after he lost his first wife in a house fire.  Edith resided in Orrick, Mo., for 60 years of her life and lived the final few years at the Lawson Manor in Lawson, Mo.

Edith loved her sisters, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren more than anything in the world.  Her second love was her garden and her pets.  Edith was held in high regards for the best fried chicken.  She was an avid quilter as well. Edith was a wonderful, gentle, forgiving, and nurturing woman who loved without condition.  God called her home on Saturday, February 6, 2021 after 97-1/2 years of a wonderful life.

Edith is survived by her son, Alva Taylor Stagner and his wife, Diane of Orrick, Mo., as well as her sisters, Kathy Daniels of Cameron, Mo., Helen “Peggy” White of Kansas City, Mo., and Lila Johnson of Smithville, Mo.  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 68 great-great grandchildren and 22 great-great-great grandchildren.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Nancy Prudden; her husband, John David Stagner; her children, Lila Ann Stagner Thompson, Joseph David Stagner, Mary Louise Stagner Sidwell, and William Elijah Stagner;  her siblings, Stephen Prudden, Wauneta Harter, and Sharon Mahan. She was also preceded in death by eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 15, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, Mo.

Funeral services will be held February 15, 2021 at 12:30 p.m., also at the funeral home, with her grandson Bryan Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the North New Garden Cemetery near Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Aron Michael Thomas, 34, of Orrick, Mo., passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021. Aron was born on May 30, 1986 to Jim Thomas and Sherry Gilbert. He was a lifelong Orrick resident and graduated from Orrick High School.

Aron was a beloved and devoted father, brother, son, nephew and friend. His daughter was his pride and joy. Aron enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Aron had worked at BNSF Railroad since April 2012 and was an equipment operator. He was a member of the Teamsters Brotherhood of Maintenance Way.

Aron was preceded in death by his father, Jim Thomas, and his grandparents.

Survivors include his daughter, Audrey; mother, Sherry Gilbert (Ron); sisters, Shannon Thomas and Julie McGill; nephews, Alex, Zane and Terry; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, Mo. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Aron’s honor can be given to the Aron Thomas Memorial Fund and payable to Shannon Thomas or Julie McGill. These funds will be put aside for his daughter’s future expenses and college education.
