Christian “C.W.” Battagler, 85, of Orrick, Mo., passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Mo.
C.W., as he was best known, was born near Orrick, Mo., on August 13, 1925 to Frank and Nettie (Hessenflow) Battagler. He was a lifelong Orrick area resident. C.W. had served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, serving as an MP with Company # 63 Infantry. Earlier he served time in Japan. During his military service, he received several medals and honors.
He was united in marriage to Wilma McFee in a ceremony performed in Liberty, Mo., on December 23, 1948.
C.W. was a farmer in the Orrick community and had worked as a security guard for the Lake City Army Ammunitions Plant for over 30 years. He was a member of the Orrick Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Robert Battagler, Howard Battagler, Fred Battagler and Wilbur Battagler.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wilma Battagler, of the home; two sons, Gary Battagler and wife, Dianna, and Alan Battagler and wife, Lorie, and a daughter, Joyce Battagler, all of Orrick, Mo.; a brother, Shirley Battagler of Orrick, Mo.; and a sister, Magdeline Hill of Norwalk, Calif.; his grandchildren, Scott Battagler, Todd Battagler, Amy Bryan (Jon), Colette Battagler, Taylor Battagler, and Ashley Rodenberg (Aaron); great grandchildren, Brett Battagler, Brady Battagler, Avis Rodenberg, Jordan Bryan, Alexis Bryan and Desiree Bryan.
The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Orrick First Baptist Church. Burial with full Military honors will follow at Union Cemetery northwest of Orrick.
