Melvin C. Harris, 67, of rural Orrick, Mo., passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at his home.
Melvin was born in Orrick, Mo., on June 22, 1942 to Melvin E. and Frances (Summers) Harris. He was a lifelong resident of the Orrick area and a graduate of Orrick High School with the class of 1960. On August 10, 1963 in a ceremony in Excelsior Springs, Melvin was united in marriage to Patricia Childers. He had worked as a diesel technician for Kansas City Freightliners for 30 years and retired in April 2010. He was a member of the Machinist Union Local #778
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jonathon Willis Harris, and grandsons, Jonathon Eugene Harris and Derek Rash.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Pat, of the home; his children, Cynthia Cox of Richmond, Mo., Gene Harris of Orrick, Mo., Clint Harris of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Christie Rash of Edgerton, Mo., Lassandra Harris of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Anthony Harris of Orrick, Mo.; his siblings, John Harris of Orrick, Mo., Wanda Bernard of Chillicothe, Mo., Nina Clark of Orrick, Mo., and Rita Dever of Liberty, Mo.; grandchildren, Paul Jr., Chester, Christopher Jewell, Nick, Amanda, Brandon, Courtney, Laura, Colorado, Madyson, Cody, Macenzie, Lane, Griffen and Tuff; great grandchildren, Jonathon Harris and Haylie Rash.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, May 25, 2010 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Burial will follow in Riffe Cemetery northwest of Orrick. In lieu of flowers, family request memorials be given to either the Riffe Cemetery Association or to Omega Health Care in care of the funeral home.
