John Eugene Hannah, Sr., passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013 in Anchorage, Alaska. He was 79 years old. John was one of nine children born to Shirley and Lola Hannah. He was born in Liberty, Mo., on November 8, 1933. He lived in Alaska for the majority of his life; however he also lived in Missouri and Texas before moving to Alaska.
John served his country in the United States Marine Corps in the occupation of Korea after World War II, where he learned to operate heavy equipment. He was a skilled crane operator and spent many years building the Alaska pipeline.
John was preceded in death by his parents, many siblings and his youngest son, Steven Hannah.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Hannah-Wallace, who lives in Georgia; son, John Hannah II, who lives in Fairbanks, Alaska; and his youngest daughter, Lisa Hannah-Leff, who lives in Liberty, Mo., with her husband, Craig. John is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, Mo., followed by graveside services with full military honors at 2 p.m. at South Point Cemetery near Orrick.
