June 20, 1935 – October 22, 2009

Mr. Jackie J. Smith, Sr., 74, formerly of Richmond, Mo., passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the Liberty Terrace Care Center.

Jackie was born in St. Joseph, Mo., on June 20, 1935 to Edward Benjamin Smith and Doris Aleine (Mishler) Smith.

He had been a farmer and retired in 1995. He had lived in the Richmond area until moving to Liberty two years ago. He was a member of the Richmond Baptist Church.

Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carrie Louise Smith in 2002, a brother, Bob Smith, and a sister, Sue Stade.

Jackie is survived by his children, Dorris Smith, St. Charles, Mo., Becky Stiffarm, Grain Valley, Mo., Robert Smith, Orrick, Mo., Charlie Smith, Richmond, Mo., Donnie Smith, Troy, Mo., and Jackie Smith, Jr., Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Jerry Smith, Fleming, Mo.; and a sister, Patricia Krout, Gallatin, Mo. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Burial will follow in Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond, Mo.

The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick.

Memorial are suggested to the Kansas City School for the Blind, payable to The KC Blind All Stars, or The American Diabetes Association.
