Frank Melton “Junior” Newsome, Jr., of Richmond, Mo., formerly of Orrick, Mo., passed away at 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning, April 18, 2013 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.
Junior, as he was commonly known, was born in Fleming, Mo., on April 25, 1927 to Frank Melton Newsome, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth (Porter) Newsome. He had lived most of his life in the Orrick, Fleming and Richmond areas. He attended school at the Fleming School.
He was united in marriage to Becky Faris and she preceded him in death.
Junior had worked as a laborer for several bridge construction companies in Kansas City, Mo., before he retired in 1987. He was a member of Laborers Union Local # 663 in Kansas City, Mo. He was also a member of the Fleming Baptist Church.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Becky Newsome, an infant daughter called Baby Newsome in 1963, an infant grandson, Frankie Kincaid in 1972, two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary I. Hawkins of Richmond, Mo.; two sons, Donald Newsome of Warsaw, Mo., and Joseph Newsome of Richmond, Mo; a sister, Virginia Belt of Bogard, Mo.; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Mary Hawkins.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, with funeral services following at 11 a.m. at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.
