Douglas E. Hensley

1938 – 2015

Douglas E. Hensley, 76, of Orrick, Mo., passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Liberty Hospital.

Doug, as he was best known, was born on December 4, 1938 in Waynesville, Mo., to Clarence Ray Hensley and Ethel Angeline (Walters) Hensley. Doug attended C.M.S.U. in Warrensburg, Mo., where he received his BA and MA degrees in education. Doug moved to Orrick in 1964 and taught school and was a basketball coach. Later he was the principal at the Orrick Elementary School. Earlier he had taught in the Leeton, Mo. school district and the Richmond, Mo. school district. After he retired from teaching, Doug worked as an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Company and later became an independent insurance agent. He served eight years in the Army National Guard.

On June 25, 1969, Doug was united in marriage to Jeanette Rogers of Orrick. He was a member of the Orrick Baptist Church and before his health failed had been an active member of the Orrick Lions Club.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother and father and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jeanette Hensley of the home; a son, Kevin Jeffries and wife, Shelly of Orrick; and daughters, Kim Matthews and husband, Todd of Norborne, Mo., and Leigh Ann Koval and husband, Shawn of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; brothers, Dennis Hensley of Columbia, Mo., Dwight Hensley and Melvin Hensley, both of Waynesville, Mo.; sisters, Barbara Johnson of Albuquerque, N.M., and Marlene Hartley of Waynesville, Mo. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015 followed by funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.
