Donald Keith “Barney” Blyth

November 27, 1942 – September 15, 2009

Mr. Donald Keith “Barney” Blyth, 66, of Orrick, Mo., passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Liberty Hospital.

Donald Keith was born on November 27, 1942 in Ray County, Missouri, to Donald Kent and Opal (Sharp) Blyth. He was a lifelong resident of Ray County and lived most of his life in the Orrick area. He was a graduate of Orrick High School with the class of 1962.

On December 3, 1971, he was united in marriage to Linda Curry in a ceremony at the Lutheran Church in Waverly, Mo.

Donald Keith had worked for Missouri Public Service Company now known as Kansas City Power and Light for 32 years as a lineman and serviceman. He retired in 1997.

He was a member of the Orrick Baptist Church and the I.B.E.W. union in Kansas City.

He was currently a member of the Orrick Fire Protection District board of directors and a member of the Orrick fire department.

He was a former board member of the Orrick Special Road District and was the former mayor of Henrietta, Mo., and Orrick, Mo.

He had owned and operated Captain Blyth’s Restaurant in Henrietta, Mo., The Orrick Pool Hall, Bearcat Den, and Blyth’s Restaurant, all in Orrick. He catered dinners for the South Point Cemetery Association and the Orrick Fire District as well as many other large events held in the community.

Donald Keith liked to drink coffee in the local restaurants with his many friends. He especially liked to tease and play pranks with his friends.

Preceding him in death were his father, Donald Kent Blyth on May 20, 2007, a brother, Dannie Blyth on January 25, 1967, and a stepdaughter, Robin Brown-Chase in 1999.

Donald Keith is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda Blyth of the home; his mother, Opal Blyth of Orrick; a daughter, Donna Blyth, and a grandson, Josh Price, both of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; two brothers, Jackie Blyth and Bub Blyth, both of Orrick; two sisters, Alice O’Dell of Largo, Fla., and Martha Jean Barnes-Martin of Independence, Mo. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins as well as many friends.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the South Point Cemetery near Orrick with the Reverend Fred Kelly officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday with a coffee bar in Donald Keith’s honor at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick.

Memorials are suggested to the Donald Keith Blyth memorial fund and may be left at the funeral home.
