Danny Gene Callaway

Danny Gene Callaway, 66 of Orrick, Mo., passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at North Kansas City Hospital.

Danny was born in Orrick, Mo., on August 28, 1950 to Roy Thomas Callaway and Vena Belle (Covey) Callaway. He was a lifelong resident of Orrick and was a graduate of Orrick High School with the class of 1968. Danny had worked as a laborer for the Orrick Farm Service for many years until his retirement in 2009. Dan enjoyed fixing up old cars and trucks and especially enjoyed shootin’ the breeze with his friends. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ivan Thomas, and a brother-in-law, James R. McGlothlin.

Danny is survived by his siblings, Sharon McGlothlin, Roy Lee Callaway, and Vicky Dallas (Don), all of Orrick, Tim Callaway (Kendra) of Kearney, Mo., Terry Callaway (Susie) and Tammy Crowley, of Orrick. He is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews and 23 great nephews and nieces.

The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 at Gowing Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Acree officiating. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.

David Allan Stagner

David Allan Stagner, 49, passed away on June 19, 2017, with his family closely surrounding him. David was born on October 13, 1967, (and he would always let you know it was Friday the 13th) at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., to parents Alva Taylor Stagner and Sharyn Kay Eastley, of Orrick, Mo.

David married the love of his life, Viola Ann Roberts, on June 24, 1986, and the two of them shared 31 years together growing in their faith for Lord and the love they had for one another. Their union brought two daughters, Lindsy Nichole and Megan Daniell, into the world, who were his pride and joy.

David worked for Ford Motor Company for nearly 20 years and then at IBA Molecular until the time of his retirement.

David was passionate about creating art, spending much of his time drawing and painting in his home … a home which he always welcomed visitors in with open arms, a cup of coffee and good conversation. He loved antiques, classic cars and was a sucker for a ’69 Chevelle SS. He enjoyed taking care of others, including the beloved family dogs, Cooper and Bexley. David always put his faith and family first, cherishing the time he spent with his three favorite girls and grandson, and it shined through in his every action.

David is survived by his wife, Viola Stagner; two daughters, Lindsy Stagner and Megan Taylor; foreign-exchange daughter, Anna Yuzawa; godson, Stephen Hutchings; son-in-law, James Taylor; grandson, Greyson David Taylor; future son-in-law, Kyle Moyer; his little sidekick, Draiven Moyer; father, Alva Stagner; step mother, Diane Stagner; sister, Lisa Miller; step brothers, Scott Saucier and Brent Saucier; step sister, Lea Cruise; grandmother, Edith Stagner; mother-in-law, Donna Roberts; several brother and sister in-laws, nieces and nephews, and friends.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Sharyn Eastley; grandfather, John David Stagner; and father-in-law, Joseph Roberts.

The family will be honoring his memory at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, Mo., on Saturday, June 24, 2017, with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m., and funeral services following at 2:30 p.m. Contributions can be made to the Orrick Community Center.

 

Kenneth Randell Light

Kenneth Randell Light, 81, of Orrick, Mo., died May 30, 2017 at his home.

Kenneth was born on November 24, 1935 in Laclede County, Mo., to Clarence Randell Light and Opal Alice (Cope) Light. He was united in marriage to Wilma Jean Oliphant in Hartville, Mo., on July 20, 1956. He had lived in Kansas City North before moving to Orrick in 1969. Kenneth had worked as a millright for Procter & Gamble in Kansas City, Kans., from 1957 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Orrick Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon at the church, having been ordained on February 24, 1974. Kenneth loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed time spent with his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Candye Light and Sandra Light; and a brother, Clarence Lorraine Light.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma Jean Light of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Culler (John) of Kansas City, Kans.; sisters, Veta Berry (Bill) of Kansas City, Kans., and Jannette Light of Springfield, Mo.; brother, Wayne Light (Debbie) of Parkville, Mo.; grandchildren, Christa Phillips (Lonney), Joshua Teegarden (Danielle), and Kurt Culler; great granddaughter, Brooke Phillilps; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Orrick Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery, Orrick, Mo.

Robert Keith Blyth

September 22, 1923 – May 27, 2017

Robert Keith Blyth, 93, Lawson, died Saturday, May 27, at Liberty Hospital.

He was born September 22, 1923, the son of Ulvin Gordon and May (Wholf) Blyth, in Orrick.

He was raised in Orrick and was a 1941 graduate of Orrick High School.After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Kalinin Bay during the Battle of Leyte Gulf and the liberation of the Philippines.

He married Rosma Joann Branham of Orrick on May 19, 1951 in Orrick.

He retired from the General Motors Fairfax Plant in 1978 after 31 years. After retiring he moved from Orrick to Cape Fair. They later moved to Warsaw in 1996.

He was a member of UAW Local #31, Richmond V.F.W. Post 4398 and American Legion Post 137.

In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Sherry Blyth of Warsaw and David and DaVona Blyth of Lawson; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Steve Best of Hannibal; four granddaughters, Jennifer Blyth and Tim Coleman of Independence, Kerri and Jamie Powell of Liberty, Erin and Adrian Keller of Columbia, and Andrea Collette of Columbia; two great-grandsons, Liam Riley Powell and Blyth Robert Allen Powell of Liberty; a brother William “Bill” Blyth of Orrick; his brothers-and sisters-in-law, Dwight McMullen of Orrick, Sammy Max and Shirley Taylor of Orrick, Vickie and Jim Barger of Liberty, Beverly Branham of Orrick, and Norma Branham of Excelsior Springs; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Donald Kent and Opal Blyth; a sister, Wanda Bryan; two brothers-in-law, Bill Branham and David Lee Branham; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Joy Merriman and Sharon McMullen; and nieces and nephews, Dannie Kent Blyth, Donald Keith Blyth, Alice May O’Dell, Janet Robin Brown, and Jon Bryan.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Friday, June 2, at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, with visitation from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and services at 2 p.m. His nephew, Pastor Sean Hoeflicker will officiate.

Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the South Point Cemetery Association, Liberty Hospital Hospice Care, or the Honor Flight program.

Robin Lynn Branham

March 17, 1963 – April 26, 2017

Robin Lynn Branham, 54, of Hardin, Mo., formerly of Orrick, Mo., passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Mo., surrounded by her loving family.

Robin was born in Richmond, Mo., on March 17, 1963 to Everett Lee Neal and Mary Lee (Peek) Neal. She had lived most of her life in Ray County. Robin had worked as a supervisor for Schlumberger Corp in Kansas City, Mo., for several years.

Robin loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed every minute she spent with them. She also loved her dogs, especially her dog Daisy. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching crime shows on TV.

Robin was preceded in death by her father, Everett Neal, and her first husband, John Phillip Johnson of Milan, Mo., and a brother, Cecil John Polson, of Marceline, Mo.

Survivors include her mother, Mary Lee Hoover of Richmond, Mo.; daughters, Vanessa Clark (Dennis) of Hardin, Mo., and Alisha Marie Branham (Will Henry) of Hamilton, Mo.; brothers, Wilbur Polson of Richmond, Mo., and John Polson of Marceline, Mo.; sisters, Pam Wilks of Warrensburg, Mo., and Glenda Reed of Hardin, Mo.; grandchildren, Dennis Lee Clark III and Dalton John Clark, both of Hardin, Mo., and Zaiden Ryan Branham of Hamilton, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation to follow services.

Warren Todd Gaines

December 9, 1968 – April 4, 2017

Warren Todd Gaines, 48, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., formerly of Orrick, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo., following a lengthy illness.

Todd was born on December 9, 1968 In Excelsior Springs, Mo., to Edwin Harold Gaines, Jr. and Astrid Voelker. He was a lifelong area resident. Todd was a graduate of Orrick High School with the class of 1987. He was united in marriage to Kimberly J. Scenter on October 4, 2008.

Todd had worked for the Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant in Claycomo for 14 years before he was forced to retire for medical reasons in 2005. He was a member of UAW local 249 in Claycomo. Todd was a member of the ES First Assembly of God Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Todd loved being with his family and he enjoyed working and restoring cars.

Todd is survived by his wife, Kimberly J. Gaines of the home; his children, Madilyn Madrigal of Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Knoster, Mo., Sierrah Gaines of Kansas City, Mo., Allyson Madrigal and Brayden Gaines, both of the home; his father and step-mother, Edwin Harold Gaines and Trudy of Orrick, Mo.; his mother and step-father, Astrid Buchanan and Kevin of Terri Haute, Ind; siblings, Sylvia Cook (Joe) of Scramento, Calif., Karen McGlothlin (Darrin) of Orrick, Mo., Michael Rimmer of Norborne, Mo., Valerie Creel (Bobby) of San Jose, Calif., and Daniel Bergeron (Erica) of Santa Rosa, Calif.; several nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Block officiating. Burial will follow in South Point Cemetery near Orrick, Mo.

James Thomas “Bobo” McAfee

August 14, 1951 – March 23, 2017

James Thomas “Bobo” McAfee, 65 of Richmond, Mo., formerly of Orrick, Mo., passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Bobo, as he was commonly called, was born on August 14, 1951 in Lexington, Mo., to Malcolm Wayne McAfee and Marcella Rose (Martin) McAfee. He had lived most of his life in Orrick and was most proud of his Orrick roots.

Bobo was an avid sports fan. He loved the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs as well as the MU footall team. He was the Orrick Bearcats biggest fan and was there to support and root for them at every game he could attend. Bobo was always up on the stats of most major league ball clubs and could recite those stats to you instantly if asked. Bobo enjoyed playing Bingo with his friends at Shirkey Nursing and Rehab Center and he loved to tease and joke about giving his friends a knuckle sandwich or a black eye. He was always a happy person and enjoyed life with his family and friends. He was of the Baptist faith.

Bobo was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm W. McAfee in 1989 and Marcella Rose “Tot” McAfee in 2012.

Survivors include a brother, Kenneth Wayne McAfee and wife, Sandra of Orrick, Mo., and a sister, Leisa McAfee-Cook and husband, Dennis of Orrick, Mo.; uncle, Ronnie Barber and wife, Helen of St. Joseph, Mo., and an aunt, Fern Briscoe of Raymore, Mo.; niece, Kenda Ransom and husband, Steve of Concord, N.C.; great niece, Sophia Ransom, and a great nephew, Dane Ransom, both of Concord, N.C.; numerous cousins and loving friends.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017 at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Burial will be in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.

Vickie Jean Mackey

July 3, 1955 – February 18, 2017

Vickie Jean Mackey, 61, of Lowry City, Mo., formerly of Richmond, Mo., passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehab Center in Richmond.

Vickie was born on July 3, 1955 in Richmond to Lawrence Nelson White and Betty Jean (Yallaly) White. She had lived much of her life in Richmond and Ray County before moving to Lowry City in 2010. Vickie was a business administrative assistant at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Mo., for 16 years and retired in 2010.

Vickie loved planting flowers and gardening, she enjoyed reading and liked to make home made lotions. She loved animals and especially loved her dogs.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Jean Gowing on February 21, 2010 and her stepfather, Sammy Lee Gowing, on August 20, 2013.

Survivors include her father, Lawrence Nelson White of Richmond, Mo.; four sons, Ronnie Nelson Bartley of Kansas City, Mo., Nathan Preston Bartley of Camden, Mo., Landon Chase Bartley and Joshua Ryan Bartley, both of Rayville, Mo.; a brother, David Lawrence White (Julie) of Richmond, Mo., and a sister, Samantha Johnson (Bob) of Liberty, Mo.; five grandchildren; two nephews and two nieces; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation for the family will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, Mo. Graveside services will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond, Mo.

Vina Marie O’Dell

November 1, 1926 – February 13, 2017

Vina Marie O’Dell, 90, of Orrick, Mo., passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at the home of her daughter near Orrick.

Vina was born on November 1, 1926 in Orrick, Mo., to Jesse David Covey and Mary Elizabeth (Lee) Covey.

She was a lifelong resident of the Orrick community. She was united in marriage to Luther Lee O’Dell, Sr. on February 24, 1943. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2009. Vina was a homemaker and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed country bluegrass music, going to the lake and fishing. She also loved gardening and tending to her flower beds. She also was fond of raising baby chickens.

Vina was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Mary Covey; her husband, Luther Lee O’Dell, Sr. in 2009; her son, Jessie O’Dell in 2001; two daughters, Mary Lee Morrison in 2011 and JoAnn Collins in 2008; and her siblings, David, Jim, and Bessie.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Luther Lee O’Dell, Jr. and Jimmie and Gale O’Dell, all of Orrick, Mo.; daughters, Janet Millsap of Richmond, Mo., and Shirley Offutt of Orrick, Mo.; Dorothy and Bob Bell of Higginsville, Mo.; 15 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 42 great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial following at the City Cemetery in Richmond, Mo.

Memorials are suggested to the Orrick Fire and Rescue Squad.

Donald Lee Hayes

Donald Lee Hayes, 81, of Richmond, Mo., passed away on January 19, 2017 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Mo. He was born in Orrick, Mo., and lived most of his life in Northeast Kansas City before moving to Richmond, Mo., which he always loved the small town life.

Donald worked at Certain Teed for over 29 years, and with C. W. Marrs before retiring to live the good life. In his spare time, he enjoyed working puzzles, going on road trips, casinos, being with his family and visiting with people at Daddy’s 10-13 Diner, which was named after him and of which he was very proud of. He was also a great craftsman, he could construct and build anything.

Donald was extremely loving and proud of his three daughters, Debbie Gorman, Sherrie Davis and Donna Brinkoetter and her husband, Steve. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Waskom of Morriston, Fla., as well as his five grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends, as well as his two cats, Elvis and Buddy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Estel and Freida Hayes, one great grandson, Brian Lee Hayes, and an uncle, Billy Joe Stevinson.
