July 1, 1935 – June 13, 2013
Anna Leigh Twyman, of Orrick, passed away peacefully June 13, 2013 at Shirkey Nursing Home in Richmond surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness and a long, happy and productive life. Ann was born July 1, 1935 in Amazonia, Mo., to J.E. (Buck) and Ethyl Laura (Ruby) Kerns. She graduated from Craig High School in 1953 and married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Homer Duane Twyman on September 19 of the same year. They shared 46 years together before he passed away in 1999.
Ann raised three sons and eight grandchildren. Homer, her kids, grandkids and her farm were her world. Everything she did revolved around them and she happily got every ounce of enjoyment possible out of them. She and Homer never missed any event their family was involved in and a herd of grandchildren could usually be seen getting off the school bus at “Granny’s” house. Ann and Homer’s house was the family headquarters and they could be counted on anytime, anywhere. They went astronomically beyond the call as parents and grandparents.
Ann grew up on her family’s farm in Craig, and after a few years of marriage, she and Homer moved to Orrick to start their own farm. To say the least, she was a highly motivated individual. In addition to being a farmer and mother, she worked in the offices of Whitaker Cable, first in Excelsior Springs and later in Lexington and at Ferguson Plastic in Richmond.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Teresa Twyman, Tim and Maria Twyman, Mike and Tracie Twyman; seven grandchildren, Mindy, Angie, Abby, Courtney, Tommie, Turner, and Lauren Twyman; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanie Edwards; two sisters-in-law, Doris Twyman and JoAnne Kerns; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Tom Kerns; aunt and uncle, Everette and Jennie Kerns; and one grandson, Tyler Twyman.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Orrick Community Center or South Point Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening, June 16, 2013 at the Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick, Mo.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 at the Rock Falls Baptist Church north of Orrick. Burial in South Point Cemetery near Orrick.
